Presenting...Jaidis Shaw

Interview with Jaidis Shaw

Currently residing: Cayce, South Carolina

Savannah: Hello Jaidis and thank you so much for stopping by today!

Jaidis: Thank you so much for allowing me to visit! I’m so excited to be here!

Savannah: First of all, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Jaidis: Well let me think. I’m an author, obviously, and I have a couple of short stories published with Wicked East Press. I work as the Book Tour Coordinator for Nurture Your BOOKS™ so I get to spend my days helping other authors promote their work, which I love!  I’m a mom to a very energetic four-year-old daughter who keeps me on my toes. I’m married so I play the housewife gig as well.

Savannah: A little birdie told me that you have a book coming out titled Destiny Awaits; can you tell us more about it?

Jaidis: I told that little birdie not to tell anyone! That little rascal is always beating me to the punch…sigh. But yes, I do have a book coming out. In fact it just came out on April 21st! Destiny Awaits is my first novel so I’m super excited and nervous to share it with everyone.

Savannah: How did you come up with the title and the story?

Jaidis: I first thought up the idea for the story way back in 2005 and the title fit the storyline. Then I had to put my writing on hold for several years and when I went back to it, I didn’t like the storyline anymore and did a complete rewrite. I just felt as though since I had grown, the story no longer fit. After the rewrite, I thought about finding a new title but it had been Destiny Awaits for so long that I couldn’t bring myself to change it and tweaked the story so that it would still make sense.

Savannah: Is Romance the only genre you write?

Jaidis: Actually no. Destiny Awaits is the only story that I have published that I would consider to have romance in it. A short story of mine that is published by Wicked East Press has a smidgen of romance but so little that I wouldn’t even call it romance...hehe.

I’ve tried my hand at stories with darker elements and also dabbled in the Western and Suspense genres.

Savannah: What made you want to become a writer?

Jaidis: I had a rough time in high school because we moved from the north to the south and I spent every day of my 10th grade year alone, sitting in the school library during lunch because nobody would talk to me. So I read a lot of books and when I wasn’t reading, I would create my own worlds in which to escape.

Savannah: Do you have any sort of ritual when it comes to writing? For me it’s a good, strong cup of coffee within reach LOL Also having some quiet time helps a lot!

Jaidis: I don’t know if I have a strict ritual when it comes to writing. I don’t drink coffee so I usually have a glass of ice water nearby. I do have a stash of Red Bull that I dip into on nights that I’m in the zone and don’t want to stop writing.

Also, on the weekends, I normally force my hubby to watch our daughter so that I can lock myself in my office and get some writing done.

Savannah: Do you struggle with anything in particular when it comes to writing?

Jaidis: It is sometimes hard for me to find the time to write. I have so much going on that my writing often gets pushed off until later. Other than that, I often have times that I lack the confidence to share my stories with others and I have to force myself to hit the send button.

Savannah: Who is your favorite author?

Jaidis: Jean M. Auel. I love her Earth’s Children series and if you haven’t read her books, you should go do it now….well, after you finish my interview. J

Savannah: All-time favorite book?

Jaidis: There are so many books that I love but I don’t like to put the ‘All-time favorite book’ label on any one particular book.

Savannah: If you could ask any author a question, who would it be and what would you ask them?

Jaidis: Hmmm? That’s a tough one. I think I’d ask Jean M. Auel what is was like spending so many years working on one book series. In her Earth’s Children series, the first book, The Clan of the Cave Bear, came out in 1980 and the last book, and number six in the series, came out last year. That is a long time to work on a single series.

Savannah: Well Jaidis you certainly have shared quite a bit of yourself with us. I wish you much success with your book Destiny Awaits. Any final words for us?

Jaidis: Thank you so much for allowing me to share with your readers today! I had a great time and the best host! Feel free to stop by my blog to learn about other authors and enter my numerous giveaways. J
